I find I never have enough time. Too many things spark my interest and lead me down various paths. All of these things take time and money and energy. But all of them bring me some measure of joy. This blog is an effort to chronicle my adventures and keep some organized record of them. I hope I can be organized enough to keep it up!
I am a dabbler. I am 100% southern by the grace of God. I am also a complete diva. So the name of this blog is: Dabbling Dixie Diva. If you don’t like it, don’t read it! If you do like it, come with me and maybe find a little inspiration to try something new! In the end, this blog is for my enjoyment alone. But it is always enjoyable to have good company on any adventure.

My most recent interest, or "obsession" as my 13 year old son calls it, is acrylic painting and mixed media art. This began with nothing more than a cursory glance at the work of mixed media artist Christy Tomlinson. Christy is a master in my eyes. She makes the most beautiful girls, which she calls “She Art.” I was familiar with Christy from my earlier (and still existing) interest in scrapbooking. Christy runs a monthly kit club and online store http://www.scarletlime.com My next painting adventure led me to Melody Ross, one of the founders of the Brave Girls Club. Melody paints great "Funky Flowers" and various inspirational pieces. Love her too! Next I was inspired by Danielle Daniel and "Her Story." Her art encompasses a lot of animals. As a life long horse lover, I am anticipating the challenge of incorporating horses in my work!
I attempted to make my own pieces of “She Art”. The first few were not very good. Then I decided to sign up for an online class. A few simple tricks and techniques were revealed and I was making much better art in short order! Friends and family loved it and I have already sold a few pieces. It is very exciting indeed!
As I get older (approaching the big 5-0 in a couple of years), I find it more and more necessary to find something joyful each day. I am a lawyer by trade, 22 years and counting in the trial courtrooms of Anderson, SC. So I see a lot. Most of it pretty disturbing stuff. Finding the joy has become crucial to life. Today's joy will be found in the pages of the new sketch pad and fresh paint from Michael's!
